If you're new to running in Austin, running along the river is a great start. This is an easy route: generally straight, very little elevation change, not too crowded. This is a popular area for paddleboarding, kayaking and biking, so you'll encounter other people while running. Parking is aplenty and the trail is open year-round.

The starting point for this trail is at the Festival Beach Boat Ramp. There's plenty of parking on Hernandez Street, the street leading to the boat ramp. You'll also find several free parking lots nearby. On the weekends it can get a little crowded but there's still tons of options.

The Mile 6 Marker on the Butler Trail, next to the boat ramp.
Waypoint
About a quarter mile ahead you'll pass underneath the I-35.
Mile 1 Marker
After an uphill segment you'll reach Rainey Street and a few steps later you've finished Mile 1. You'll pass a pedestrian bridge or two. The Perch and Austin Rowing Club docks will be on your left.
Halfway There - 1.55 Mile Marker
Pass underneath the South Congress Bridge to hit 1.55 miles. There's a cool circular staircase leading to a pedestrian bridge. There's a water fountain here if you need it. If you really need it.
Mile 2 Marker
You'll pass by Shoal Creek. You should be across the street from Seaholm and the Town Lake YMCA.
Mile 3 Marker
You'll see the Sunrise Track Club to your right. Run to the end of the dock on your left and you've completed the route! A 5K distance: 3.14 miles to be exact.
